It all started with a quest for tulips that were TALL and other hard-to-find flowers. Inside the largest flower auction in the world — Aalsmeer in The Netherlands — there is a small company who will sell and ship directly to Tall Tulips Flower Shop in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Hundreds of varieties of flowers from all over Europe, Asia and Africa are available to us each week. Ranunculus cut by the grower in Italy on Monday goes to the Aalsmeer Flower Auction Tuesday, and is in our cooler Wednesday.

We built Tall Tulips Flower Shop around the idea of gently breaking the rules of floristry ... asymmetrical arrangements with the graceful curve of a dendrobium orchid stem as the focus . . . or vibrating colors like magenta and red. After all, “harmony is built on surprising contrasts.” Flowers in the garden live in harmony. . . we translate that harmony in nature into a vase and make adjustments according to person and place.
